Sylvia HeroldThis all-acoustic jam is open to all instrumentalists and singers with some experience of swing and jazz. Instructor will provide one mic and a small amp for vocalists. No more than two basses --but ideally at least one! If you play bass and want to participate, please e-mail instructor, and a slot will be reserved: sylvex@att.net

Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to pay at the box office and get set up. Instructor will distribute two charts per session for you to take home; all easy-to-jam-on standards, but we’ll do as many songs as we can cram in. Come prepared to suggest a tune you’d like to sing or play lead on.

You don’t need to be a hotshot to participate in this jam. And, if you are a singer who does not play an instrument, you are welcome to join. However, keep in mind that we’ll be trading instrumental solos so you may not get to sing as much as you’d like.

Sylvia Herold brings to the classroom a wild enthusiasm for learning jazz and swing repertoire and three decades of teaching experience. Herold was a member of the swing vocal trio Cats & Jammers and the Django band, The Hot Club of San Francisco. Currently Herold tours and records with Wake the Dead, Sylvia Herold and the Rhythm Bugs, The Sylvia Herold Ensemble and her folk combo Euphonia. She has appeared on more than 25 albums, including five solo recordings. She teaches at many popular music camps including California Coast Music Camp, Port Townsend Voice Works, and British Columbia Swing Camp. Singing, playing guitar, and learning new songs are her favorite activities.
