Didn't get what you asked Santa for? Head feeling foggy from too much eggnog? Come get the holiday cheer you've been waiting for on the night after Christmas, when legendary saxophonist/keyboardist/composer Peter Apfelbaum returns to the Freight with his band, Sparkler, featuring fellow Bay Area-born, now East Coast-based colleagues Will Bernard on guitar, Natalie Cressman and Jill Ryan on horns and vocals, Charlie Ferguson on drums, and special guest Erika Oba on keyboards. Sparkler combines simple songs, complex rap and electronica with the polyrhythmic, world music-driven sound which Apfelbaum has long been known for. The band will perform a new work, The Ambidextrous Nature of the Universe, commissioned by the Newport Jazz Festival for their performance at the festival this past July.

"Experimental and joyful music by one of jazz's hidden treasures" - Dan Ouelette, ZEAL NY
