“…smart songs about the way we think and live.” – New York Times
The street-smart metaphors and black comedy Patricia Barber uses in her lyrics have a tendency to smash gloriously against her jagged piano phrases. They are then fused back together by her sinuous and smoky alto voice, making for a truly one-of-a-kind musical experience. An intelligent and committed songwriter, Barber tackles the familiar subjects of ‘love and loss,’ but with nuance and depth. Quirky, insistently independent and emotionally cool, she’s attracted a dedicated following with her rigorous songwriting craft and sly, harmonically deft piano work.
