With an engaging conversational style, Ellis Paul delivers his tunes in a high, clear voice that gets you right in the heart. He tells touching and tender stories in songs that meld a pop sensibility with an abiding respect for the storytelling tradition of masters like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. His finely chiseled, deeply humane songs have won him more than a dozen Boston Music Awards. He’s released 19 albums in his twenty-year career, including his new one, Chasing Beauty. “I’m alive and wide awake,” he sings on the title song, and the music has a vivid immediacy that snaps the listener to close attention. Born in 1965 in Fort Kent, Maine, a potato-farming town near the Canadian border, Ellis attended Boston College on a track scholarship, got injured his junior year, and took up guitar. Soon he was singing at open mics. After working as a teacher and a social worker for a few years, he quit his day job and started earning a living as a musician. His songs have been featured in television shows and movies, including the Farrelly Brothers’ Me, Myself and Irene and Shallow Hal. “Despite his success and sense of history,” says the New York Times, he “remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential of his music.” His shows are inspiring and intimate, full of wonder and whimsy and beautiful songs.

Jon Carroll began performing in his early childhood in Fredericksburg, VA (he was the organist for both the Sound System, as well as with The Blues Machine—popular bands there in the late 60’s). Carroll’s family moved to Washington D.C., where he soon began his career with the Grammy award winning Starland Vocal Band (“Afternoon Delight”) in the 70’s. He has continued on an artistically versatile path as an award winning performer, songwriter, composer and all around musician. His songs have been recorded by such artists as Linda Ronstadt and Tom Jones and on stage and in studio he’s backed up Peter Wolf, Rodney Crowell, Mary Chapin Carpenter (for over 25 yrs), Dixie Chicks and countless others.

A veteran award recipient of the Washington Area Music Association, Carroll has been awarded 17 “Wammies”, including Album of the Year (for his CDs Love Returns and Live Returns), Musician of the Year, Song of the Year, Songwriter, Vocalist and Pop/Rock Instrumentalist of the Year. His shows are performed in many configurations near and far, but hearing him solo is a rare treat, as Jon’s experience has culminated in a rich repertoire that contains multitudes of styles and regional sensibilities that make for a rich and soulful journey through story and song.
