Highlights of the New Building:
  • Expanded seating capacity, to the tune of 440 seats

  • Much easier access to public transportation, with downtown Berkeley BART and city bus lines only one half block away, and nearby parking for plenty of cars and bicycles

  • A cafe in the lobby, open all day

  • A 50-seat "music lounge" where we will present emerging artists, open mic events, and student performances

  • A shop with CDs, T-shirts, posters, sheet music, and instructional DVDs

  • Comfortable backstage space for performers (with private dressing rooms and rest rooms)

  • Greatly needed office space for Freight staff

The Freight's new home blends the existing building and new construction in the most environmentally sound way possible. In all our work, we're being careful to stick to the stringent LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification guidelines, the nationally accepted benchmark for green building design, construction, and operation.
