MamoMamo is an all-star Hawaiian duo featuring Nathan Aweau, winner of 11 Na Hoku Hanohano awards, and Jeff Peterson, winner of five Na Hoku Hanohano awards and two Grammys. Nathan sings and plays bass, guitar, and percussion, and Jeff plays guitar and ukulele. Together, they celebrate their aloha for Hawaii with fresh interpretations of classic Hawaiian standards as well as their own original compositions.
Nathan has been a member of several outstanding groups, including Ka'eo, The Ali'i’s, and Hapa. The New York Times has praised his “in-depth understanding of orchestration” and his “effortless singing style.” Jeff has worked with a diverse mix of artists including Eric Clapton, James Galway, Aaron Neville, Boz Scaggs, the Honolulu Symphony, jazz bassist Rufus Reid, and shakuhachi master Riley Lee. Mamo means "descendants", and Nathan and Jeff make music that pays tribute to the masters who came before them, incorporating traditional slack key, Hawaiian falsetto, and traditional Hawaiian percussion instruments with contemporary pop music and jazz.
