Oakland Interfaith Gospel ChoirIn celebration of Black History Month, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir pays homage to traditional spirituals and black gospel music, under the direction of Terrance Kelly. The choir will be joined by Henrietta Davis, Jackie Tolbert, and the McGuillicutty sisters and will be honoring bay area legends The Oakland Gospelettes.

Kay SternFreight favorite (and SF Opera Concertmaster) Kay Stern joins SFCO Music Director Ben Simon for a selection of short, delightful string duos by the 20th century Hungarian master Béla Bartók. These folk songs and dances (most are under one minute long) represent Slovakia, Rumania, Ukraine, Serbia and north Africa as well as Hungary, all sources of inspiration for Bartók’s larger works.

Freight Open MicThis is your chance to play at the Freight. Our Open Mic has brought in some of our brightest performers, including Shawn Colvin, Dana Carvey, Alvin Youngblood Hart, and Patrick Landeza. The audience is friendly – and people actually listen! So come on down and join the fun. All performers welcome. 


Signups – on a first-come, first-served basis – begin when the door opens at 7:00 p.m. The show starts promptly at 7:30 pm.

While many an American jazz singer flirts with the Brazilian Songbook, San Francisco vocalist Sandy Cressman made a name for herself as a true devotee of the country’s greatest contemporary composers, interpreting songs by post-bossa masters like Milton Nascimento, Hermeto Pascoal, Gilberto Gil, and Filó Machado in Rio-accented Portuguese.

Box Set Duo TrioJeff Person and Jim Brunberg first started playing together in the early 1990s at The Owl and the Monkey Café in San Francisco’s Sunset District. Their band, Box Set, recorded seven albums and won Bay Area Music Awards for Best Club Band and Outstanding Americana/Roots Band, and a “Group of the Year” award from the National Academy of Songwriters.
