The Good Ol' Persons were formed in 1975 as a result of the success of five women performing at a Freight & Salvage open mic. The name filled a spur-of-the-moment need and provided a wry comment on the dominant bluegrass culture of the era. It didn't take long for a band to form, for men to infiltrate -- and for the music to become more important than a gimmicky name.

Jazz Search West is the Bay Area’s Annual Jazz Talent Search for instrumentalists and vocalists (15 and up). Five exciting weekly events, open to the public, are held during March and April at Bay Area Jazz venues, and culminate in a Semi-Final at Freight And Salvage and Grand Finale at Yoshi’s in Oakland.

Founded in the spring of 2013, the CMSSF is four young, passionate players (and SFCO All-Stars) dedicated to bringing masterworks of the chamber music repertoire to diverse audiences in intimate settings around the Bay Area. Jory Fankuchen and Natasha Makhijani (violins), Clio Tilto (viola) and Samsun van Loon (cello) present an exciting and wide-ranging program for their Freight debut.

Versatile doesn’t begin to cover it, and neither does excellent. Jim Lauderdale is just so damn good at so many styles of music – maybe the word is masterful. Bluegrass, country, soul, folk – for Jim, it all falls under the umbrella of Americana – roots music at its finest, and that’s the music he makes.

The T Sisters, born and raised in California and now based in the creative hub of Oakland, embody harmony. It’s in their blood, bones, and history. Erika, Rachel and Chloe have been singing and writing music together since childhood, and the lifetime of practice shows.
