Join us tonight for a concert with banjoists Moira Smiley, Evie Ladin with Evil Diane, and Erin Inglish celebrating the release of the Banjo Babes 2015 Calendar & Album. The calendar project is a lighthearted tribute to some seriously talented musicians, and the show will feature gorgeous singing and masterful banjo playing!

Kay SternClassical at the Freight brings in some of the Bay Area’s best classical musicians for an hour of outstanding chamber music in an informal, friendly atmosphere. San Francisco Chamber Orchestra music director Ben Simon hosts. There’s no stuffiness, no mystification, just an invigorating evening with gifted musicians sharing the beauty and joy of this timeless art with new audiences of all ages.

Frank FairfieldFrank Fairfield is a young man and old time folk musician from the San Joaquin Valley who plays fiddle, guitar, and banjo while singing and hollering. Steeped in the pre-War Americana of Mississippi John Hurt and Dock Boggs, he cut his teeth as a street performer in Los Angeles and plays with edgy intensity from a vast repertoire of traditional songs and roots-inspired originals.

The Celtic Fiddle Festival features Kevin Burke of County Sligo, Christian Lemaître of Brittany, and André Brunet of Québec – “three of the finest folk violinists anywhere,” according to the Washington Post – along with master of the open-tuned guitar, Nicolas Quemener of Brittany. Their concerts showcase a fascinating juxtaposition of regional and individual styles. “This is a real treat beyond all borders and barriers,” says the website FolkWorld.

The uilleann pipes are the national bagpipes of Ireland, and tionól is the Irish word for a gathering. A multitude of uilleann pipers and folks who love to hear uilleann pipes are gathering together for a tionól tonight at the Freight. This extravaganza of Irish music features some of the best Irish pipers in the West.
