Definitely "not your mama's string quartet," the four classically trained players of Quartet Rouge—Kathy Marshall and Erin Benim on violins, Michi Aceret on viola, and cellist Rachel Turner Houk—play a wide variety of rock, pop, and indie material in great, original arrangements. Fresh from their success with Green Day's American Idiot show at the Berkeley Rep, come hear this bold and babelicious group range from Mozart to Megadeth at their Freight & Salvage premiere.

Start: 05/18/2010 8:00 pm

All performers are welcome to participate in this event that has produced some of our brightest performers, including: Shawn Colvin, Dana Carvey, Alvin Youngblood Hart, and Patrick Landeza.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS! One unique aspect of our Open Mic is that, unlike those held in noisy bars where people show up in spite of the fact that there's live music, you will be playing to a supportive group of friends and performers who are actually listening!!!

The duo is known for their exquisitely close, haunting harmonies, remarkable for the use of shifting intervals, dissonance, and unisons, which set them apart from other artists of the 1960s folk era.
