Have you ever seen Cheryl Wheeler at the Freight? If so, you already know. She tells hilarious stories, sings heartbreakingly beautiful songs, and makes an unforgettable connection with her audience. Singout! Magazine calls her a “rare artist” and praises her “strong poetry, complex melodies, and clever wit.” According to, “She has a rare gift for writing songs with lush melodies and lyrics of incredible beauty. On the other hand, she is a master of quick wit. Her observational humor has brought us a number of songs describing the utter ridiculousness of the world around us. And then there is the richness of her silky alto telling us what lies in the deepest recesses of her songwriter’s heart.” Her songs have been covered by Peter Paul & Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Bogguss, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Kathy Mattea, and Holly Near, and she’s released eleven albums of her own, including her latest, Greetings: Cheryl Wheeler Live (Featuring Kenny White). She doesn’t venture out of New England very often, and her shows at the Freight tend to sell out, so get your tickets early for this wonderful storyteller and musician.
Kenny White plays the piano with effortless fluency and writes songs that tickle the mind and stir the soul. You may have heard him on KFOG’s Acoustic Sunrise, which often plays “Gotta Sing High” from his fifth and most recent album, Comfort in the Static. Kenny has worked with Gladys Knight, Linda Ronstadt, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, Kim Carnes, Felix Cavaliere, Dobie Gray, and Aaron Neville, and has produced albums for Shawn Colvin and Peter Wolf. praises his “jazz-tinged keyboard work and his breathy, rangy tenor,” and declares, “he has the wit of an Elvis Costello to go with the mastery of language of a Jackson Browne.” His songs are clever, articulate, and musically satisfying. They not only make you laugh, they make you think and feel.
